UGC NET 2024: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Union education ministry's decision to cancel the UGC-NET exam following reports of compromised integrity. This year, the UGC NET 2024 was conducted on June 18 and the ministry on June 19 had ordered to cancel the UGC-NET exam and handed over the matter to the CBI for investigation.
A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the petition, which was filed by advocate Ujjawal Gaur. The plea filed seeks an immediate stay on the proposed re-examination of the UGC-NET until the CBI completes its inquiry into the paper leak allegations.
Petition To Stay on Re-Examination of UGC NET
The plea requests that the CBI expedite its inquiry into the UGC-NET paper leak allegations and submit a detailed report. Additionally, it seeks directions for the respondents to provide documentation and evidence supporting the cancellation decision, including details of the alleged paper leak and the methodology used to identify the leak on the dark web.
The petitioner contends that the cancellation, based on falsified evidence, constitutes a gross miscarriage of justice and violates the principles of fairness in the Constitution of India. The arbitrary nature of the decision demonstrates a lack of due diligence and disregard for the welfare of students. Additionally, the NTA has announced new dates for the UGC NET exam in August 2024, despite the ongoing investigation.
