Candidates are required to score a minimum of around 25 per cent marks in each subject to clear the NDA written exam. The total marks allotted to the written exam are 900. NDA select cadet based on service vacancy. It is according to the number of officers required at that time. But the academy accommodation also plays a role. The existing infrastructure at the academy can accommodate a certain number of cadets each term. If it is extended or the intake is greater than the capacity, the training standards will drop.

NDA 2 cut off 2020 for the written exam was 355 (With at least 25% marks in each subject). The final cut off for NDA 2 2020 exam was 719.

NDA grade pay depend on the post to which they are selected. NDA salary is based on the 10th pay scale as per 7th pay commission. NDA grade pay for different posts is given below.

On successful commissioning in Army, candidates are given the rank of Lieutenant. In Navy, candidates are given the rank of Sub Lieutenant. In Air Force, candidates are given the rank of Flying Officer. The starting NDA salary of an Officer is INR 56,100. This is the stipend offered to the candidates during the training period and the minimum salary that a Lieutenant gets. It keeps on increasing as per the level of the post.

Army group insurance fund is the compulsory contributory group scheme that provides insurance cover of INR 15 Lacs on payment of one time non-refundable premium of INR 6,400 for 3 years paid from the date of joining NDA till completion of training. In case of death, compensation is offered to the families. An ex-gratia amount of INR 12.5 Lacs or INR 9,000 per month is paid to the NoK. This will be provided on an ex-gratia basis and should not be considered with a pension.

There is no difference between UPSC NDA 1 and 2 exams. NDA 1 exam is conducted for admission to the January batch. Whereas, NDA 2 exam is conducted for admission to July batch.

The selected candidates are given preliminary training both academic and physical for a period of three years at the National Defence Academy. The training during the first two and half years is common to the cadets of three wings. All the cadets on passing out will be awarded degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi.

The selected candidates of the Naval Academy will be given preliminary training both academic and physical, for a period of three years at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala. The cadets of 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme are awarded a B Tech Degree on successful completion of training.

On passing out from the National Defence Academy, Army Cadets go to the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Naval Cadets to Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala and Air Force cadets and Ground Duty-Non Tech streams to Air Force Academy, Hyderabad and Air Force cadets of Ground Duty-Tech stream to Air Force Technical College, Bengaluru.

At the IMA Army Cadets are known as Gentlemen Cadets and are given strenuous military training for a period of one year. On successful completion of training, Gentlemen Cadets are granted Permanent Commission in the rank of Lt.

The Naval cadets are selected for the Executive Branch of the Navy. On passing out from the National Defence Academy and are given further training at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala for a period of one year. On successful completion, they are promoted to the rank of Sub Lieutenants.

Air Force Cadets are given flying training for a period of 1½ years. However, at the end of one year of training, they are given provisional Commission in the rank of Flying Officer. After successful completion of further training of six months, they are granted permanent commissioned officers post.

NDA is the joint training institute for all three services-Army, Navy and Air Force. After joining the NDA cadet undergo training for three years. After graduating from NDA candidates are sent to their respective training academies for one year of training before commissioning. Army cadets are sent to the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun), naval cadets to the Indian Naval Academy (Ezhimala), and Air Force cadets to the Air Force Academy (Dundigal, Hyderabad).

The girls of the age group 16 ½ to 19 years are eligible to undergo three-year training in NDA. The military training of the girl cadets is conducted in a gender-neutral manner. A total of 1.7 lakh women candidates applied for UPSC NDA 2 exam 2021. Out of these 1002 women candidates had qualified the written exam. The training objective of the girl cadet at NDA continue to remain as centre excellence for producing military leaders equipped with professional, moral and physical attributes with minimum changes to the existing curriculum in training, drill outdoor training, etc. Owing to the physiological differences between male and female cadets, there might be certain changes in the physical training of girl cadets. 

The following documents are required for SSB interview:

• Original Class 12 passing certificate or equivalent in support of educational qualification
• Certificate of eligibility for a certain category of students
• Category or cast certificate applicable to SC, ST, OBC, etc
• Identity and address proof (Aadhar Card/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Nivaas Pramaan Patra)

The final selection process of NDA 2 2023 is given below:

• For admission to Army, Navy and Air Force of NDA, candidates need to secure NDA cutoff marks separately in the written exam and SSB interview
• For Air Force, candidates should qualify the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS)
• The marks of the NDA SSB interview and written exam are considered for the final selection
• Final selection for respective academies is done as per vacancies subjected to their NDA eligibility, medical fitness, and merit-cum-preference of candidates

NDA salary per month is INR 56,100 during the training period. After joining NDA, candidates get the starting salary. Over the time, the NDA salary increases based on the experience and performance. NDA salary per month for Lieutenant is between INR 56,100-1,77,500. The highest NDA salary for Officer is INR 2,50,000 per month for the Chief of Army Staff.

Wherever two or more candidates have secured equal aggregate marks in NDA & NA exam, the ties are resolved in accordance with the following principles approved by the Commission:

• In case of equal marks in aggregate, the candidate senior in age may be placed at higher rank and
• In case of the candidates having same age and same aggregate marks, the candidate getting higher aggregate score in written papers may be placed at higher rank

NDA cut off for final selection is the marks secured by the last finally recommended candidates. The cut off for this stage is decided out of 1800 marks (900 marks of written exam + 900 marks of Interview.

NDA 2 cutoff for the written exam in 2021 was 355 whereas it was 726 for final selection. The final selection of candidates for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA was done based on the written exam and SSB interview.

The sectional NDA cut off is decided out of the total marks in each subject. The sectional cutoff is 25 per cent in each subject. Apart from the qualifying marks, candidates are also required to secure the overall cut off marks. The cut off marks are calculated out of 900 marks. NDA cut off marks are calculated based on the various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, number of vacancies, total marks and number of test takers. The important questions for NDA GAT paper are given below:

The GAT syllabus of NDA is divided into two parts. Part A comprises questions from English, while Part B carries questions from General Knowledge. Questions in English part are asked from Grammar and Usage, Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Cohesion. Questions in General Knowledge are asked from Physics, Chemistry, Social Studies, General Science, Geography, and Current Events.

The shift 2 exam of NDA 2 2023 exam will start at 2 pm. The exam will conclude at 4.30 pm.

For NDA 1 exam, both male and female candidates must have been born not earlier than July 2, 2004, and not later than July 1, 2007. For NDA 2 exam, both male and female candidates must have been born not earlier than January 2, 2005, and not later than January 1, 2008. 

To qualify the Maths paper of NDA, candidates need to secure 25 per cent. The total marks allotted to the Maths paper are 300.

Maximum questions in the Maths section were asked from Probability. There were less questions from Statistics.

NDA 1 2024 exam will be conducted on April 21, 2024. The notification for the exam will be released on December 20, 2023. The last date of application is January 9, 2024. NDA 2 notification 2024 will be released on May 15, 2024. The last date to apply for the exam is June 4, 2024. The exam will be conducted on September 1, 2024. 

There is no limit to the number of attempts for NDA exam. Candidates can apply for the exam within the prescribed age limit.

The cut off is 25 per cent in each subject means 75 marks in maths and 150 marks in GAT paper but to get qualified for SSB you have to score atleast 320. Then in SSB candidates have to score around 390+ to get admission in NDA.

The exam for the forenoon shift is underway. The Maths paper is being conducted in this shift. The exam will be over at 12.30 pm.

The entry of students for the forenoon shift closed at 9.50 AM. 

The exam for Shift 1 will begin at 10 am. The Maths paper will be conducted in the Shift 1 exam. The Maths paper carries a total of 300 marks.

The entry of students for the forenoon shift is underway. The documents of candidates are being checked by the exam centre officials.

The entry of students for the forenon shift will close at 9.50 AM. The entry gate will close 10 minutes before the exam.

Around two to three Lacs candidates apply for NDA exam. The written exam of NDA is cleared by around 8000 to 10,000 candidates. Such candidates are called for SSB interview. The pass percentage in SSB interview is around 10 to 15 per cent. Many students are rejected on medical ground as well. After the medicals, a merit list is prepared which features around 580 to 650 candidates. First 350 to 380 candidates are invited for admission to NDA and INAC. Some candidates do not join and some are not able to cope up with the tough training process. NDA selection process is bit tough therefore it takes about six months preparation to crack the exam.

NDA selection process comprises written exam and SSB interview. Candidates need to secure qualifying marks separately in the written exam and SSB interview. Qualified candidates will be placed in a single combined list on the basis of total marks secure in the written exam and SSB interview. Final allocation is done based on the number of vacancies, eligibility, medical fitness and merit-cum-preference of the candidates. The written exam of NDA is conducted for 900 marks. The sectional cutoff marks for the written exam is 25 per cent. The SSB interview carries 900 marks. The SSB interview is conducted in two stages. Stage 1 comprises Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception and Description Test (PP&DT) whereas Stage 2 comprises Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and the Conference.

The following things should be kept in mind while appearing for the exam:

• Keep the printout of the NDA 2 admit card
• Take two passport size photographs
• Keep black ballpoint pen to sign the attendance list and OMR sheet

In case, the photograph is not visible/blurred or not available on the e-Admit Card, candidates are advised to carry two (2) identical photographs (one photograph for each session).

 NDA 2 question paper will be released by September 6. NDA question papers are made available on the official website of UPSC in PDF. Candidates can download NDA question papers for different subjects-Maths and GAT. 

It is not compulsory to take the colour printout of NDA admit card to the exam centre. According to the official notice, candidates need to bring the printout of the admit along with the (original) Photo Identity Card, whose number is mentioned in the admit card. They need to bring the admit card in each session to secure admission to exam centre. Candidates need to preserve the admit card till the declaration of the final result as it is required for the SSB Interview.

The stipend given to Gentlemen Cadets during the entire duration of training in Service academies i.e. during training period at IMA is INR 56,100 for NDA exam. After the successful training, the NDA salary of the Officer Commissioned will be fixed in the first Cell of Level 10. Besides, candidates are also entitled to various perks and allowances.

The total marks allotted to NDA written exam are 900. The GAT paper carries 600 marks and Maths paper carries 300 marks.

NDA exam day guidelines are given below:

• Candidates should reach the exam centre well in advance for verification of admit card, frisking, etc
• Candidates should note that they will not be allowed to appear at any other exam centre except the one mentioned on the admit card. If candidates appear at any other venue due to any reason, their candidature will be cancelled
• Candidates are not allowed to use mobile phones, pager or any other electronic equipment or programmable device or storage media such as pen drive, smartwatches, camera, bluetooth devices. Candidates found carrying these items will not be allowed to appear in the exam and disciplinary action will be taken against them that including a ban from future examinations
• Use of wristwatches is not allowed inside the examination hall
• Candidates are advised to bring a black ballpoint pen to fill the attendance list and OMR sheet
• Answers other than those marked by black ballpoint pen will not be evaluated
