School students’ parents to receive money in bank accounts for uniform, bags: UP Govt

Presently, the uniforms, shoes, school bags are provided to students through schools for free.

Uttar Pradesh government has announced to transfer money directly to the bank accounts of parents of around 1 crore 80 lakh students studying schools under the Basic Shiksha Parishad. Basic Education Minister Satish Dwivedi informed the government’s decision on November 5 via a video. The minister said, “Government will transfer 1100 INR to bank accounts of parents of around 1 crore 80 lakh students studying in schools under Basic Shiksha Parishad through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), to buy school uniform, sweater, shoes, socks and bags. UP CM Yogi Adityanath will launch this scheme on November 6.”

The money is being transferred for buying uniforms, shoes, socks, sweaters and school bags. The official release issued by the cabinet stated, “For uniforms, shoes, socks, sweaters and school bags, the parents of the students from Classes 1 to 8 studying in government primary and aided schools will be given money directly in their accounts. About 1,800 crores INR will be spent on this.”

Presently, the schools provide uniforms, shoes, school bags to students for free. Carrying forward the same scheme, the government has decided to provide a total amount of about 1,800 crores INR through direct benefit transfer (DBT) to parents of 1.6 crore students.

The government also decided to provide 80 hectares of land to the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) in the State capital on a token lease rent of ₹1 per year. According to the official release, the land has been identified in Sarojini Nagar tehsil, adding that investments of over 9,300 crores INR will be made by the DRDO in the next five to seven years.

It will give jobs to 500 engineers and indirect employment to 1,500 people, the release said. The decisions were taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
