Earlier on Sunday, the district authorities in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut, Aligarh, Mathura, Kanpur, Etah, Mainpuri and Firozabad had ordered closure of schools on Monday.
Several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including the state capital Lucknow, declared holidays for all schools and higher educational institutions on Tuesday as wel in view of incessant rain. A statement issued by District Magistrate of Lucknow Suryapal Gangwar said that schools will remain closed on Tuesday.
A state government official said higher education institutions will also remain closed on Tuesday in the districts where the authorities have declared a holiday in view of rain.
Earlier on Sunday, the district authorities in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut, Aligarh, Mathura, Kanpur, Etah, Mainpuri and Firozabad had ordered closure of schools on Monday. Several parts of Uttar Pradesh continued to receive heavy rains on Monday.
The national capital region has received continuous rain since Saturday afternoon, flooding roads and uprooting trees. So far, district authorities in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut, Aligarh, Mathura, Kanpur, Etah, Mainpuri, and Firozabad have ordered the closure of schools due to heavy rain.
"Due to excessive rain in the district and keeping in view the possibility of excessive rain, the District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar has declared a holiday on October 10 [Monday] in government, semi-government aided, and unaided recognized schools of all the boards operating from class 1 to 12 of the district," a school official in Noida was quoted as saying by PTI.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued an orange alert regarding heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightening for western Uttar Pradesh areas and asked authorities to stay alert for Monday.
