Jharkhand closes schools, colleges, coaching institutions and educational institutions until January 15 amid the rising COVID-19 cases. The government new guidelines and restrictions too. Read further to know more.

Amid the rise in COVID-19 cases in the state, the Jharkhand government has announced that all schools, colleges, coaching institutions and other educational institutions will remain closed until January 15. The decision was taken during a meeting of the state disaster management authority chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Jharkhand has become the latest state to close all educational institutions amid the rise in COVID-19 cases and fears of the Omicron variant. Earlier, Delhi, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Goa had announced that schools will be closed until further orders.

“Parks, swimming pools, gyms, zoos, tourist places, sports stadiums, schools, colleges, coaching institutes will remain closed till January 15, 2022, but these institutions will have administrative work with 50 per cent capacity. Till January 15, 2022, cinema halls, restaurants, bars and shopping malls will open with 50 per cent capacity,” the Office of the Chief Minister, Jharkhand tweeted, after the DMA meeting.

A maximum of 100 people can participate in the outdoor event while indoor events can be held with 50 per cent of the total capacity or 100, whichever is less. Offices of government and private institutions will remain open with 50 per cent capacity. The state has put a ban on biometric attendance.

In Mumbai too the schools have been shut down considering the number of positive cases crossing the 11,000 mark. India has reported 37,379 new COVID-19 cases, 124 deaths in last 24 hours. As per the report of health ministry, so far the country has reported 1,892 Omicron cases.
