Schools in Tamil Nadu to reopen from November 16 for Classes 9 to 12. Ahead of reopening, many schools conducted meeting with the parents to get their views on the same.

Tamil Nadu government has announced that it has decided to reopen the schools across the state from November 16, 2020. The schools in the state will reopen after the gap of 7 months. Ahead of reopening, government schools, government-aided schools, and private schools in Rameswaram have conducted parents and teachers. The schools will reopen for students studying in Classes 9 to 12.

To take views of parents regarding reopening, more than 12,000 schools conducted the meeting with parents. At the parents, teachers' meet, safety precautions were discussed related to schools reopening along with other measures to be followed to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus on the school premises.

Many parents of students of private schools were not in favor of schools reopening in November and wanted schools reopening to postpone till January. On the other hand, parents of students of government schools wanted schools to reopen.

While speaking to a media house, a government school headmaster said, “Parents who are doing casual jobs feel their children would be safe at schools. But those from middle-class backgrounds worry about monsoon season and a possible second wave of COVID19.”

CBSE schools in the state also conducted meeting with parents where most of them were against sending their children to schools.

While ahead of the meeting, the School Education Department had sent standard operating procedures to all schools, using which they were expected to collate the feedback from parents for submission. Soon after analysing the feedback, the state government would make the announcement before Diwali.

Meanwhile, the state government has decided that students will undergo medical screening for comorbid conditions. Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) doctors team will screen government school students, while private schools in the state will have to organize health check-ups and submit details to the government.
