Schools to remain shut in parts of Rajasthan due to heavy rainfall

Incessant rainfall has resulted in flooding of the Chambal, Parvan, Parvati, and Kalisindh rivers. Considering the severity of the situation, the government has announced the closure of educational institutions in various areas of Rajasthan. 

Rajasthan Schools Shut: In view of the floods caused by heavy rainfall, all schools in Rajasthan's Jalore district will remain shut on Wednesday as well, August 24, 2022. A circular issued by the district collector requested the teaching staff to remain present in the schools, however, students will be given a holiday.

“All schools in Jalore district to remain closed tomorrow, 24th August in wake of incessant heavy rainfall in the district. Teaching staff requested to remain present in the schools on the day; holiday applicable to students,” it stated.

Jalore, on Tuesday, recorded 13.5 mm rainfall until 5:30 pm, according to the weather department. Earlier, the weather department had predicted heavy spells of thundershowers in Jalore and other parts of Rajasthan.

On August 22, Heavy rainfall resulted in a flood-like situation in Rajasthan's Kota, Jhalawar and surrounding districts. Low-lying areas got submerged under water owing to the downpour and water released from the Kota barrage. Nearly adding around 60 people were shifted to safer places while schools and coaching institutes in Kota and Bundi were announced to remain closed on Monday.

Meanwhile, two people were washed away in floods, and the other two went missing in Rajasthan's Baran and Bundi districts on Tuesday, according to media reports. An IAF helicopter is deployed to airlift more than 50 people stuck in the waterlogged areas in Baran and Jhalawar districts while schools in all four districts of Kota division - Kota, Baran, Jhalawar, and Bundi have been shut, according to HT.
