AMU UDLC organises G20 Model United Nations Workshop

The University Debating and Literary Club (UDLC), Aligarh Muslim University, organised its first-ever Model United Nations workshop from September 11 to 14, 2023, at the Kennedy Auditorium, modelled after the G20 Summit held in India. More than 500 students from across the faculties attended the workshop and replicated the functioning of the representative global organization.

The Club Secretary, Ms. Aafia Rizvi welcomed the participants during the inaugural session and highlighted the objectives of the workshop, which was followed by an address by Dr. Sadaf Fareed, President, UDLC.

Ms. Areeba Dilshad and Mr. Shams-ud Doha Khan, senior members of UDLC presented an overview of the Model United Nations and its functional intricacies. Day one concluded with a question-answer session.

On the next day, Mr. Shams ud Doha Khan delineated the “Rules of Procedure” followed during the course of a Model United Nations Conference. The concerned incharges also addressed the house and congratulated the office bearers, volunteers and the participants for their enthusiastic involvement.

Webinar held on Palestinian Issue

The Department of West Asian and North African Studies, Aligarh Muslim University organized an international webinar on "Insights on the Global Movement for Palestinians Rights: Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions."

Prof. Nandini Patel, Adjunct Professor of International Relations at Malawi School of Government, Africa and Chairperson, IPI, shed light on the critical aspects of the global movement.

She said, "The global BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement seeks to address Palestinian rights by non-violently pressuring Israel through boycotts, divestments, and sanctions. It draws inspiration from the anti-apartheid movement and aims to end Israeli occupation, secure equal rights, and promote Palestinian refugees' right to return. The movement has gained global support but also faces controversy and criticism."
