BBAU Receives Category-1 University Status by UGC

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) has been awarded with category-1 university status by the University Grants Commission (UGC), giving BBAU administrative autonomy for commencing new courses, designing curriculum and forming academic collaborations overseas. 

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) has attained the esteemed Category-1 university status from UGC. The universities are categorised under three sections based on NAAC scores where universities achieving a NAAC score of 3.51 receive Category-1 status. The BBAU's score of 3.72 is the highest among all central universities. As of now, only Lucknow University has received the UGC's category-1 status from the city apart from BBAU. Subsequently, BBAU has received the 42nd position under the NIRF Ranking and a 3.5-star rating under Institution Innovation Counselling. 

"As a Category-1 university, BBAU aims to explore new horizons in academia and beyond in future. Moreover, the positive outcomes of this milestone will be reflected in its endeavours. Now, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University has the authority to introduce new courses, programmes, departments, schools and centres" Sanjay Singh, Vice President of BBAU remarked. 

Universities categorised under Category-1 are awarded with the authority to initiate courses concurrent to the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) merely by intimating the commission regarding the introduction of programmes. Furthermore, Category-1 universities have the liberty to establish off-campus centres within their geographical jurisdiction.  

"BBAU will generate more resources to improve the quality of education and infrastructure for students. Further, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University aims to set a benchmark in the academic field overseas." The Vice-Chancellor further added.
