St.Mira's college for girls has started online mental-well being program, to help students with their needs, challenges, and personal distresses associated with preventive measures like quarantine and social distancing.

In order to support students during the coronavirus lockdown, St. Mira's college for girls, Pune has initiated a Mental well-being program. The college has also started virtual classes to avoid any academic loss amid the ongoing lockdown period.

After the lockdown was announced, the students of the psychology department had reached out to the faculty for creating online platforms to support the other students to deal with their mental health. This initiative was an extension of their ongoing college Mental Well-being Program.

The program is an online platform where students can share their needs, challenges, and personal distresses associated with preventive measures like quarantine and social distancing. An online form was generated and shared with all the students, screening their mental health needs and readiness for online support groups/sessions. 275 students have filled the form until now and are looking for online support.

In the wake of the COVID 19 Pandemic, St. Mira's college for girls was shut down on March 17, 2020. The college is doing everything in its power to support the students as much as possible.

The college has also started virtual classes for its students amidst the coronavirus crisis so that students don’t suffer academically. Teachers are uploading lectures through various online modes. To make the classes interactive, students can also ask their queries during the lectures.

While commenting on the program, Dr. Gulshan Gidwani, said: "In times like these, mental health can be easily neglected and unseen. It is possible to sometimes lose ourselves in news, constant anxiety and fear but we need to remind ourselves that everyone has the ability to survive and fight. This program is here to build an emotionally resilient student community.”
