CUET UG 2025 Exam Pattern

On December 9, 2024, UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar interacted with students who appeared for CUET UG 2024. During this session, he addressed various issues faced in the previous exam and discussed proposed changes for 2025. Following the feedback, the concerned authority made some changes to the CUET UG Exam Pattern 2025. The revised pattern aims to make the exam more efficient and credible for students aiming to pursue undergraduate programmes at top CUET participating central, state, and private universities for the academic year 2025-2026.

Alongside these discussions, the UGC plans to release a draft proposal for stakeholder feedback, seeking input from students, educators, and parents. Check out the newly revised CUET UG 2025 exam pattern here.

CUET Exam Pattern 2025: Revised

The chairman of UGC has made major changes to the CUET UG 2025 exam pattern. Refer to the below points to learn about these changes:

  • From 2025, CUET will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only.
  • Earlier there were 63 subjects, UGC has now reduced it to 37 subjects. Universities will offer admissions for the removed subjects based on the General Aptitude Test (GAT) Score.
  • Until now there were 33 languages (13 regional and 20 foreign languages). UGC has removed all foreign languages, reducing the total to 13 languages.
  • The domain subjects are also reduced from 29 to 23 domain subjects. The removed subjects are Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Legal Studies, Fashion Studies, Tourism, and Engineering Graphics.
  • Students can now select up to five subjects, instead of six subjects. They are also given the flexibility of choosing any subject, regardless of what they study in Class 12th.
  • The previous exam duration was 45 minutes for domain subjects (except 60 minutes for some main domain subjects) and 60 minutes for general test. This has been changed to 60 minutes for all subjects, ensuring standardized exam duration.
  • There will be no optional questions given in the exam. Students will have to attempt all 50 questions within 60 minutes.

About CUET UG Exam

Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a national-level entrance exam for admissions in undergraduate courses across 283 participating universities/colleges. The NTA is expected to conduct the CUET UG 2025 exam in May/June 2025. However, the official CUET calendar has not yet been released, causing confusion among students.

Last year, the NTA released the CUET exam schedule in November, but this year’s delay has left many students uncertain. With the Class 12th Board exam dates already announced, students are increasingly anxious about the CUET schedule as they struggle to plan their preparation effectively. The lack of clarity has made it challenging for them to allocate time between board exams and CUET preparation.
