DU: Janki Devi Memorial College inaugurates Symphony'24, marking beginning of cultural extravaganza

The Symphony'24 event hosted renowned artists during the inaugural session. More than 3000 student participants from multiple colleges are poised to participate in 28 competitions across the discipline of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The University of Delhi's Janki Devi Memorial College kickstarts its fest, Symphony’24, today, January 31, 2024. 

This year's theme, UDAY-AWAKEN THE LIGHT WITHIN, hosted contests in various fields such as acting, debate, street play, dance, music, and poetry, among others.

Symphony is Janki Devi Memorial College's annual intercultural college fest, promoting diverse talents and fostering intercultural exchange. 

Renowned Kathak Exponent & Choreographer, Vidushi Rani Khanam, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, alongside Guests of Honor Shri Suman Kumar and Prof. Rupam Kapoor from Sangeet Natak Akademi and the University of Delhi's Dept. of Botany, respectively.

Sharing her thoughts during the event, Chief Guest, Vidushi Rani Khanam, said, “This event's theme, 'UDAY - Awaken the light within,' emphasizes the necessity for the youth to ignite the spirit within themselves for a brighter future. It is necessary for us to stay motivated and continue pursuing our dreams and goals. I am truly delighted to observe that JDMC students are according due acknowledgement and significance to the field of arts, especially classical arts. This reflects their commitment to fostering a well-rounded and culturally enriched educational environment.”

Prof. Swati Pal, Principal, Janki Devi Memorial College, said, "It is our honor to welcome our esteemed Chief Guest, Vidushi Rani Khanam, and our Guests of Honor, Shri Suman Kumar and Prof. Rupam Kapoor, to the inaugural session of our inter-college fest, Symphony’24. This year's theme, 'UDAY - Awaken the light within,' aims to provide a platform for the participating students to showcase their talents, skills, and overall personalities. Through this event, we aspire to contribute not only to the development of a Viksit Bharat but also a Viksit Vishva."

Guest of Honor, Prof. Rupam Kapoor, from the Department of Botany, University of Delhi, expressed, "I am delighted to be a part of this cultural extravaganza, Symphony’24. In this era of pervasive social media, where youngsters often face significant peer pressure, I extend my congratulations to Janki Devi Memorial College for organizing this cultural event. The opening ceremony set the stage for vibrant performances by the students of Janki Devi Memorial College. From the spirited presentations of the Nukkad Natak (Street Play) competition to the graceful expressions of classical dance performances, the upcoming three-day extravaganza promises to be a dynamic platform for students to exhibit their talents and kindle their passions.
