As per the stream of students of that discipline such as BA, B.Com, BSc, BCA, BBA, freshers can be admitted in this program and they will get the degree of Bachelor of Science- BS/BS honours degree. For a graduation degree, the candidates need to pursue a course for 3 years and for the honours degree for 4 years.
The university stated that the BS degree course will be based on major subjects instead of faculties. The newly designed BS course will offer major subjects like Economics, Sociology, Gujarati, Physics, Sanskrit, Botany, and Mathematics.
The eligibility criteria are - the candidates must have passed Class 12 from GSHSEB, CBSE or ICSE. Students who have cleared Class 12 from NIOS or hold a vocational diploma can also apply for the BS course. The students need to score a minimum of 50% from 122 credits for the three-year BS graduate degree and 50% from 162 credits for the four year BS honours degree.
"In Gujarat, there are a couple of universities which offer BS degree courses. However, they offer only a few subjects as majors. GU is offering 22 subjects in BS degree and honours course which is the highest number of subjects being offered in the state by a university at present," said Neerja Gupta, Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University told TOI.
