All the candidates for shift 1 have entered the premises. Candidates can carry only the admit card and photo ID inside the exam centres. Parents and guardians have to wait for their wards outside. After reaching their allotted labs, candidates will go through the registration process with the invigilators seating at the computer screen. After the admit card and valid photo identity verification candidates will go under mandatory frisking where male and female candidates' security checking would be conducted. This step is taken to ensure that no malpractice is being followed. In case any barred item is found from candidates, they would not be allowed entry to the centre. After the checking, the candidates will go to their allotted laboratory number at the examination centre for IIT JAM 2024. 

The following items are barred from carrying to the IIT JAM 2024 exam centre:

• Books, copies or papers of any kind.
• Mobile phones, calculators, watches or any other electronic or digital devices.
• Bags or wallets.

The exam authorities have also mentioned that there would not be any place to keep candidates’ personal belongings, hence candidates should ideally not carry any personal belongings, except the permitted items inside the exam hall. Candidates are required to deposit them at the examination centre or submit those to their parents/guardians accompanying them.

As per the instructions given by the IIT JAM 2024 exam authorities, candidates have to report to the exam centre 90 minutes prior to the exam schedule. It is observed that test-takers can be seen reaching their respective exam centres. Some candidates reached their centres around two hours before the first slot exam timing to avoid last-minute hassle. Candidates can be found to be checking the seating arrangements and instructions provided by the centre authorities.

IIT JAM 2024 admit card and a valid photo identity card are mandatory documents to be carried at the exam centre for candidate verification. The identity card should be the same that candidates selected and provided the details for while filling the application form. In all sections, questions not attempted will result in zero mark. There is no provision for partial marking. The candidates are required to select the answer (s) for MCQ and MSQ type questions using the mouse. The answer for NAT questions must be entered using a mouse on a virtual numeric keypad. The keyboard of the computer will be disabled.
There is a provision for using online virtual calculator. Candidates are not allowed to bring their own calculators.
A scribble pad will be provided for rough work. Candidates have to write their name and registration number before using it. The scribble pad has to be returned at the end of the examination. The examination will end automatically after the stipulated time. Candidates are required to adhere to the code of conduct specified in Annexure III (Code of Conduct).

IIT JAM examinations will be conducted for 7 subjects and the examination patter is divided in such a way that the examination will bbe having 60 questions. These 60 questions has the following types:

• Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)- 30 questions

• Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)- 10 questions

• Numerical Answer Type (NAT)- 20 questions

   

According to the IIT JAM 2024 exam pattern, there will be no deduction of marks for unanswered questions. Such questions will not be taken into consideration while calculating the total marks of a candidate. Hence, if candidates are not sure about the answer of a question, it is better to leave it unattempted rather than doing a guess work, to avoid negative marking. Also, candidates are advised to revise the JAM exam sheet on the computer screen before submitting it . 

Candidates are informed that there will be a negative marking in IIT JAM 2024. Marks in each section of the exam would be deducted as per the scheme mentioned below. 

• Section A: For each wrong answer to one mark question, 1/3 mark will be deducted. On the other hand, for each wrong answer to two marks questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted. There is no negative marking for any questions left unanswered.
• Section B: There is no negative marking in this section. Also, there is no partial marking provision in this section.
• Section C: There is no negative marking in this section, as well.

There will be a total of 60 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. The entire paper will be divided into three sections: A, B and C. IIT JAM 2024 exam will be conducted to test the students subject knowlege, which they have studied in their respective course's udergraduate degree. The questions will be asked in the format of MCQ (Multiple choice questions), MSQ (Multiple Select Questions) and NAT (Numerical Answer Type Questions).

Because of the change of IIT JAM 2024 Haldwani exam centre, candidates are advised by the exam officials to to download the new IIT AJM 2024 admit card from JOAPS Portal. 

Incase the candidates are not able to download the new admit card, they can also bring the old JAM 2024 admit card. The admit card will be used as a curfew card as well, says the exam officials.

The exam officials are also providing the bus services to the candidates. Candidates are advised to board the bus at 5:30 am from Tikonia Chauraha, Haldwani. JAM 2024 exam will be held in two shifts and candidates are advised by the exam officials of both the shift to board the bus at 5:30 am only.

Earlier today, JAM 2024 exam officials had to cancel one of the IIT JAM 2024 exam centre i.e., Haldwani. Canadiates, whose exam centre was earlier Haldwani, now has to report to Bareilley. The exam officials are also providing the bus services to the candidates.

The section below brings a list of tips that are not just related to studies, but practical aspects as well. 

1. Revision: Isn’t it annoying when you learn something by heart and end up forgetting the concept on the day of the exam? It usually happens when you do not revise your subjects, especially a few days before the exam. The best way to revise any topic is to solve as many questions as possible related to it.

2. Attempt sample papers and previous year question papers of IIT JAM: Solving a question paper of the previous year will not only boost your confidence level but also help you know the frequently asked questions. With a couple of days still to go, you can easily attempt at least two to three question papers. Devote the remaining time to work on your areas.

3. Find out your areas of improvement: As you revise your notes and solve IIT JAM sample papers, you may come across a few areas where you still lack consistency or clarity. To eliminate your weak points, go through the notes again and try solving questions of varying difficulty levels.

4. Refrain from studying fresh topics: Starting off with a fresh topic will cut down your revision hours and may also create confusion. Students often try to cover every topic of the syllabus and end up retaining partial information. Instead, it is recommended that they emphasise on revising key topics and solving questions related to the same.

• Face mask which has to be worn by the candidate throughout the time spent at the exam centre.
