The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), announced the JEST 2024 exam dates for admission to PhD and Int. PhD programmes. The exam will be conducted on Sunday, March 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The exam application process is likely to start in the first week of January 2024. JEST 2024 Exam Updates: SERB, the examination conducting body will be conducting JEST 2024 on March 3, 2024 from 10 am to 1 pm at 38 exam centres across the nation. The Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) is an entrance examination conducted in India for admission to PhD. and Integrated PhD. programs in various fields of physics, theoretical computer science, and neuroscience. Several renowned institutions in India participate in JEST for admissions to their PhD. and Integrated PhD. programs. Some of these institutions include the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

JEST 2024 application process will be completely online and is expected to start in the first week of January 2024 on its official website i.e., jest.org.in/joint-entrance-screening-test. Interested applicants are advised to check the minimal eligibility criteria before registering. Participating Institutes have their own eligibility criteria for admission in PhD / Integrated PhD programs.Candidates will get the opportunity to make changes in the application form, if they have made any mistakes. SERB will open the web portal for the same.

Admission will be made to the following programmes in 2024โ€“25.

  • PhD / Integrated PhD Programme in Physics
  • Theoretical Computer Science
  • Neuroscience or Computational Biology

JEST 2024 Eligibility Criteria

M.Sc. in Physics (all participating Institutes).

Additionally, some institutes accept BE / BTech / MSc / ME / MTech. in disciplines of Applied Physics and Mathematics, as listed below.

  • MSc in Mathematics / Applied Physics / Applied Mathematics / Optics and Photonics / Instrumentation / Electronics will also be considered at IIA.
  • BE or BTech. will be considered at IISc, IMSc, ICTS-TIFR, IUCAA, JNCASR, NCRA-TIFR, TIFR-TCIS, RRI, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram.
  • MSc in Physics / Electronics / Astronomy / Applied Mathematics will be cnsidered at  IUCAA and NCRA-TIFR.
  • MSc  in Physics, Engineering Physics or Applied Physics will also be considered at IPR.
  • MSc in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Biophysics or Biochemistry will be considered at SNBNCBS.
  • BTech Eng. Phys will be considered at TIFR and NCRA-TIFR..
  • ME/ MTech in Applied Physics  will be considered at NISER.
  • MSc in Physics/Astronomy/Optics/Photonics/Biophysics/Mathematics or ME/M.Tech in Engineering also will be considered at RRI.
  • MSc in Physics, Chemistry and Bio Physics will be considered at SNBNCBS.

Integrated PhD Programme in Theoretical Computer Science at IMSc

  • BSc/BE/BTech/MCA in Computer Science or related disciplines and should be interested in the mathematical aspects of computer science.
  • Ph D in Computational Biology at IMSc

  • MSc/ ME / MTech โ€‹/ MCA  โ€‹in any engineering or science discipline, with good mathematical skills and strong interest in biological problems.

Qualifying in JEST does not automatically entitle a fellowship. Candidates should apply separately to PhD programmes in institutions of their choice, as and when advertised. Applicants shortlisted based on their JEST scores may go through an interview before final selection.
