The New Delhi Municipal Corporation’s School of Gardening will now offer certificate courses for the public. Until now, it used to offer only training for horticulturists employed with the civic bodies. The Municipal Corporation has also outlined the move in its budget for 2020-21 as well.
A senior NDMC official said that under the skill India initiative, the school will also give certificate courses after obtaining the Agricultural Council of India’s approval to provide the expertise in various fields of urban gardening, nursery management, landscaping, green waste management and tree management.
About School of Gardening, New Delhi Municipal Corporation
The NDMC's gardening school operates out of Purana Qila Road nursery. It was set up in 2011. Presently, it operates with an objective of providing training to gardeners and horticulturists appointed by MCDs, DDA, Delhi Police and other government departments.
About Horticulture
The stream of Horticulture deals with the science, art and technology of cultivation of plants that include fruits, medicinal plants, nuts, vegetables, seeds and herbs. The horticulturists apply their knowledge, skills, and technology to grow intensively produced plants for humans and food for personal or social needs.
