UGC Chairman Prof. M Jaadesh Kumar said more than 260 universities opted for CUET 2024. This year CUET UG is being conducted for 29 core subjects while 33 language papers and 1 general test paper is there in the entrance exam.
There will be 50 questions out of which 40 questions are required to be done. However, in subjects like science, there will be 60 questions out of which 50 questions have to be done. CUET UG is being conducted in 13 languages this time to provide preferred language options to the students.
CUET UG 2024 will be conducted in Hybrid mode. That means, for subjects in which the number of registrations is more than 1,00,000, then these papers will be in OMR-based mode. This way not only centres with computers, but schools/institutes without computer facilities can also become CUET UG 2024 exam centres.
For subjects where registrations are less than 1,000,000; the examination will be held in computer-based test mode, says Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar, in an interview with Doordarshan (DD National) at DD Morning Show.
UGC Chairman Interview Highlights
- It is required to have AICTE approval even if UGC recognition is received by a technical university. For example, a medical college or engineering college shall get approval from NMC or AICTE, respectively.
- This year 13.4 lakh registrations have been done in CUET 2024, so there will be difficulty in checking exam sheets physically by the teachers. Hence, CUET 2024 will enable a quick screening of students for admission to universities. Further, to reduce bias, equal base playground and transparency, the need for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is required.
- FYUP has been implemented in the majority of the universities. However, students have the option to opt for a three-year programme or a four-year programme. Further, both programmes offer degrees to the students. Students with a four-year undergraduate programme will be provided a research-based degree with which they can join PhD courses directly (If they have a minimum of 7.5 GPA in their undergraduate programme).
- NTA will announce the CUET 2024 results. Further, admission to central universities will be based on CUET results. For example, if a student is interested in Delhi University admission, then they have to visit the DU website and select their preferred choice and add their CUET scores in the application form. The respective universities will release a subject-wise merit list based on which admission will be granted. In case of vacant seats, a round 2 counselling session will be conducted.
- From this year, UGC NET scores will also be considered for admission in universities for admission. That means, a student can apply to multiple universities for PhD admission solely based on UGC NET scores and they do not have to appear for a university-based entrance exam for PhD admissions. Note that, UGC NET scores for admissions in the PhD programme are valid for one year only.
- In case of fake degree distribution by any university, the State government will look into the matter and take necessary actions against those universities. Further, punitive actions will be taken by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
