In 2024, 283 universities adopted CUET, with more than 13.47 lakh candidates registering for the CUET UG exam. Recognizing the need for continuous improvement, the UGC formed an expert committee to assess the conduct of CUET UG 2025 and CUET PG 2025.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice seeking feedback from stakeholders on the proposed revisions for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2025 and CUET PG 2025 exams. This initiative is aimed at refining the examination process for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) admissions, ensuring a more efficient and equitable approach for students across India.

CUET: A Step Towards Standardized Admissions

CUET was introduced to standardize the university admission process, offering a level playing field for students from various educational backgrounds. In 2024, 283 universities adopted CUET, with more than 13.47 lakh candidates registering for the exam. Recognizing the need for continuous improvement, the UGC formed an expert committee to assess the conduct of CUET UG 2025 and CUET PG 2025. The committee examined several key factors, including the exam structure, paper duration, syllabus alignment, and operational logistics.

Changes Proposed for CUET UG 2025

For CUET UG 2025, the exam will be conducted annually in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. Candidates will have the flexibility to choose up to five subjects, irrespective of their class XII subjects, within the allowable limit. Each paper will have a duration of one hour, with all questions being compulsory and negative marking in place. The examination will continue to be based on the NCERT syllabus, and the medium of examination will remain available in 13 languages. Additionally, the General Test will be redesigned into the General Aptitude Test, and certain domain-specific papers, such as ‘Entrepreneurship’ and ‘Teaching Aptitude,’ will be discontinued. Admissions to these courses will now rely on the General Aptitude Test scores.

Modifications for CUET PG 2025 Exam

The CUET PG 2025 exam will also follow a Computer-Based Test format, with a uniform duration of 90 minutes per paper. The examination will be bilingual, with compulsory questions and negative marking. The General Paper will be revamped to assess skill-based and professional knowledge, aligning with undergraduate education. Universities may also adjust the weightage of CUET PG scores for specific programs, providing some flexibility in admissions.

Call for Stakeholder Feedback and Next Steps

The UGC has encouraged stakeholders, including students, academic institutions, and other concerned parties, to review the proposed changes and provide their feedback. The revisions aim to create a more efficient and inclusive admission process for CUET UG 2025 and CUET PG 2025, marking an important step in improving higher education admissions across India.
