UGC releases national minimum standards and protocol for creches

UGC has released the National Minimum Standards and Protocol for creches (Operation and Management). Citing the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017, the UGC said, every establishment having 50 or more employees are required to have the facility of creche within a prescribed distance, either separately or along with common facilities.

In this regard, the Ministry of Women and Child Development(MWCD) has formulated the National Guidelines for Setting Up and Running Creches under Maternity Benefit Act 2017. 

"The Higher Educational Institutions are requested to take appropriate action in this regard. It is also requested that the above information may be disseminated to the affiliated colleges as well and the compliance ofthe same may be ensured. A copy of the said guidelines can also be downloaded from the Ministry's website- www.wcd.nic.in," reads the official notification.

UGC also notified about Labour Markets and Skills Assessment

The Commission said the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is organizing a Pan India 'Labour Market and Skill Assessment" Study to identify youth aspirations, migration patterns and employability from the supply side. In this regard the NSDC has collaborated with M/s. Axis My India as external vendor to conduct a nation-wide survey. The vendor may interview students from colleges, universities and other Higher Education Institutions as part of the study and would require necessary assistance from the HEIs.

The Higher Education Institutions are requested to extend all possible support to NSDC for smooth conduct of the survey in respective institutions, added the notification.
