With this collaboration, TAPMI will be processing completely under MAHE from the next academic year.

The Manipal-based TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) and the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) have decided to merge. While addressing the media about the collaboration of the education bodies, HS Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE informed that MAHE and TAPMI finalised the merger deed at the end of July. With this collaboration, TAPMI will be processing completely under MAHE from the next academic year. Ballal further said the students getting admitted to TAPMI from the next year (2022-23) will be under MAHE. The students admitted to the different programme during the current academic year will be under TAPMI.

Until the collaboration, TAPMI was awarding PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) degree to students. After TAPMI’s merger with MAHE, students will be awarded MBA degrees. Students getting admitted to TAPMI from 2022-23 will get MBA degrees. Talking about the reason behind TAPMI’s merge with MAHE, Ballal said, “all the major IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) have been giving MBA degrees till recently. Since some of them felt the need to give MBA degrees to their students, they were given deemed university status. With this, they can now give MBA degrees to their students.”

Apart from the general PGDM programme, TAPMI also offers PGDM Banking and Financial Services (BKFS), PGDM Human Resources (HRM), and PGDM Marketing.

Being a standalone institution, TAPMI cannot grant an MBA degree to its students. TAPMI is an autonomous institute and its governance rests with the TAPMI Trust, Governing Council and Board of Management Studies. Terming the merger as a win-win situation for both TAPMI and MAHE, he said: “We also thought TAPMI should be brought under our university (MAHE) so that we can give MBA degrees also. The admissions will be under MAHE from next year onwards, and they (students) will be given MBA degrees. The present batch will get PGDM.”
