DU increases capacity of undergrad classes to 60 students
Colleges and departments will have the option to increase or decrease the class size by 20 per cent.
Delhi University has capped the size of undergraduate classrooms as 60 students for lectures and 30 for tutorials, the university said in a notification, Times of India reported.
According to the notification issued on May 16, colleges and departments will have the option to increase or decrease the class size by 20 per cent. The class size for the various value addition courses and skill enhancement courses would be within the range of 20 to 60, it said.
Under the undergraduate programme, the general elective papers will be able to accommodate 20 to 60 students for lectures and 20 to 30 students for tutorials and practicals, it added. “Colleges may make arrangements for practical classes in a way that the laboratory facilities are put to optimum utilisation,” the university said.
PG limit increased to 50
For postgraduate programmes, the class size for a lecture will be 50 students while for tutorials and practicals, it will be 25 and 15-20, respectively. “The colleges may decide on mentor and mentee group size as per the relevant provisions of the UGC (University Grants Commission) regulations as applicable from time to time. This number is exclusive of the supernumerary seats,” the notification added.
