North Bengal University to construct two new buildings
The decision has been taken to house departments such as such as computer science and management and create space for various seminars and workshops.
Two new buildings will be built at North Bengal University to accommodate departments such as such as computer science and management and create space for various seminars and workshops, The Telegraph reported.
North Bengal University (NBU) Vice-Chancellor Omprakash Mishra whose term was extended by a month earlier this week said the chief engineer and the deputy finance officer of the university have been instructed to take necessary steps to establish the new infrastructure.
NBU oldest, largest university in north Bengal
Located on the outskirts of Siliguri, NBU is the oldest and largest university in north Bengal. “We have decided to build two new buildings for academic affairs. Because of the increasing number of students, a multi-storey building to house departments such as computer science, management and distance education would be built,” he said.
According to Mishra, the other building will be a centralised hall to host various seminars and workshops.
“The centralised hall will have state-of-the-art facilities and can be tailor-made for various seating capacities, starting from 50 to 1,000 seats. Two elevators will be installed at the humanities building for easy accessibility,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
NBU ties up with National Institute of Biomedical Genomics
The NBU, sources said, has also tied up with the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), a central government organisation, for collaborative research on early detection of a new variant of the SARS-COV-2 virus prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ranadhir Chakraborty, a professor of the biotechnology department at NBU, “We are happy to be part of the nationwide programme undertaken by the National SARS-COV-2 Genomic Consortium. Our team will start the study in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation area and later visit other parts of north Bengal.”
