Thiruvananthapuram schools closed today due to heavy rains

The weather department predicted isolated heavy rainfall with thunderstorm & lightning very likely over Kerala & Mahe and Tamil Nadu during October 14 to October 18; and over South Interior Karnataka on October 16th and October 17th.

In the wake of incessant rainfall that has battered several parts of Kerala and caused a flood-like situation in various areas across the state, all educational institutes including schools and colleges will remain closed in Thiruvananthapuram today, Monday, October 16, 2023.

Tamil Nadu's Dindigul town received 35 mm rainfall, whereas Kodaikanal (Rose Garden) witnessed a 30 mm spell. Kamatchipurm received 11.5 mm rainfall and Briyant Park in Kodaikanal observed a 43.6 mm spell, as reported by India Meterological Department.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty winds speed reaching 30-40 Kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala from 15th to 19th October 2023 & over Lakshadweep from 15th to 18th October 2023. Heavy (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) to Very heavy (12 -20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala on 15th & 16th October 2023, Heavy (7 – 11 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala on 17th and over Lakshadweep on 15th & 16TH October 2023, said IMD Thiruvananthapuram.

India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki districts on Monday, indicating that the heavy rain will continue to batter the state in the coming days. IMD also issued yellow alert in the 10 remaining districts.
