Telangana Bandh: Schools, Colleges Closed on July 12

Telangana's prominent student groups called for bandh today, July 12, 2023. All colleges and schools are closed in the state.

Many student groups of Telangana have called for an education bandh in the state today, July 12, 2023. Hence, all schools and colleges in the state are closed today. 

The students' groups which called for the bandh include - state wings of the Student Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Federation (AISF), Progressive Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO), All India Students’ Bloc (AISB), All India Progressive Students’ Union (AIPSU) and the All India Federation of Democratic Students (AIFDS), as reported by The News Minute. They are protesting for several issues including the lack of a fee regulation law in the state.

The demands include the completion of the pending distribution of textbooks along with the provision of two pairs of uniforms to students, filling up the vacancies of teachers, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff, and extending the ‘Mana Uru Mana Badi‘ scheme to all schools and providing proper funding, vacant scavengers, and cleaning staff should be replaced and toilets should be constructed in all schools, proper laws should be brought to control the private schools that are charging exorbitant fees from the students, as reported by Ind Today.

No admission available in Telangana's Govt School

In a rare occurrence, a government school in the state has put up a ‘No Admission’ board on its gate after being unable to accommodate more students. 

The school reportedly received a record 400 applications seeking admission into Class 6, which can accommodate only 180 students.
