Telangana CM urges PM Modi to allow Ukraine-returned students to join Indian medical colleges

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has requested him to allow Ukraine returned medical students to continue their studies in Indian medical colleges as a special case.

He said that nearly 20,000 students from Ukraine had returned to the country and most of them are medical students.

“According to reports, there are more than 20,000 Indian students who have been dislocated from Ukraine due to the war. Most of them are from middle-class families which will lose their lifetime savings without any hope of completing the medical education of their children. You will agree that everything possible should be done to safeguard their future," he said in the letter.

Telangana govt to fund their education

The letter added that there are more than 700 students from Telangana who have been evacuated from the war-hit country Ukraine. Their studies have been disrupted due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and the state government has decided that it will fund the education of these students, he added.

Telangana CMO tweet reads, "CM Sri KCR, in a letter addressed to Hon’ble Prime Minister ri @NarendraModi ji, has requested to enable Indian students, dislocated from #Ukraine due to the war, to join Medical colleges in country in equivalent semesters in relaxation of extant regulations."

Meanwhile, Ukraine returned medical students have also filed a petition in Supreme Court for direction to the Central government to help them in continuing their studies in India.
