TN: School girl commits suicide after alleged torture by teachers

In a tragic incident, a girl studying in Class 12 has reportedly committed suicide and left behind a note blaming her two teachers for the extreme step.

A Class 12 girl student of a private higher secondary school at Chinna Salem near Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu has reportedly died by suicide. In her suicide note, she alleged that she was being tortured by two of her teachers.

The incident took place near Kaniyamoor town where the watchman of the hostel building found the girl’s body on the ground on Wednesday morning. He alerted the school authorities and the girl was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. 

Later on, school management informed the girl's parents and they reached the Kallakurichi Government Hospital with their relatives. Nearly 50 family members staged a ‘road roko’ at the Kallakurichi-Salem highway seeking justice for her death, as reported by Indian Express.

Teachers have denied allegations

As per the suicide note, the two teachers tortured her and a few other students by forcing them to study all the time. While teachers denied the allegations of torturing the deceased girl, her family raised slogans against the school management. 

Kallakurichi SP S Selvakumar said, “The two teachers were brought to the police station for an enquiry. They told us that they just casually asked her to concentrate more and study hard as she was very playful.”

“We are carrying out the investigation. The suicide note says the girl was scolded by these teachers and the other teachers also know about the incident. The post-mortem is being carried out and once it is completed, we will hand over the body to the parents,” added SP Selvakumar.
