The University Grants Commission (UGC) is now re-inviting applications for the national fellowship for persons with disabilities (NFPwD) for the year 2021-2022. The Higher Education Regulator is doing it on behalf of the Department of empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The last date to apply is on or before March 31.
UGC has reopened the portal ugc.ac.in/ugc_schemes for receiving online applications. “Under the scheme, fellowship is given to students with disabilities who are covered under 'The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2021' for pursuing research leading to award of MPhil, PhD,” said UGC in an official statement.
It must be noted that there are 200 slots in the fellowship in which 15 per cent seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7.5 per cent for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. The selection will be done completely on a merit basis on the percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in their post graduation (PG) examination, after verification of applications, from amongst the candidates whose applications are received through online mode on the designated portal of UGC.
After the selection process, UGC will issue a list containing the names of provisionally selected candidates. They will be allowed to join the fellowship only after verification of facts or /information furnished by them in their online applications. The candidates who join the fellowship will not be entitled for any other monetary benefit from Central or State Government or other bodies like UGC for pursuing MPhil or PhD.
