While many states such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Maharashtra etc., already cancelled their final-year University and College exams, UGC permitted colleges to conduct exams for the final-year students.
The University Grant Commission released the revised guidelines for university and college exams. The much-awaited guidelines are out. Students pursuing higher education in the country were desperately waiting for the revised UGC Guidelines 2020. While many states such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Maharashtra etc., already cancelled their final-year University and College exams, UGC permitted colleges to conduct exams for the final-year students. The Human Resource and Development Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank shared the notice released by UGC regarding the revised examination guidelines 2020. Sharing the official notice released by UGC, the HRD Minister said, “The UGC has revisited its earlier guidelines related to university examinations. In view of the safety, career progression and placements of the students and their larger interests, after consulting @HMOIndia and @MoHFW_INDIA, it has been decided that…”
The minister further added, “Intermediate semester students will be evaluated based on internal assessment (as per earlier issued guidelines).” “Evaluation of the terminal semester students which was to be done through examinations in the month of July, now their examinations will be conducted by the end of September-2020, following the guidelines laid down by @MoHFW_INDIA for #COVIDー19,” Mr. Pokhriyal said in his third tweet.
With this, the speculation regarding the cancellation of the final-year university exams is over. The UGC clearly stated that the examinations that were scheduled for the month July will now be conducted by September-end. While the students were expecting the exams to be cancelled in the view of the rising novel coronavirus cases in the country, UGC decided to postpone the exam further expecting the normalcy will be restored by the end of September.UGC further stated that guidelines regarding intermediate/ semester examination laid earlier remained unchanged. Colleges and Universities are advised to conduct final-year exams in online, offline or blended mode, as per their convenience.
UGC revised guidelines for backlog students
The students of the terminal semester or final year students having backlog should compulsorily be evaluated by conducting examinations in offline or online or blended (online + offline) mode as per feasibility and suitability, guidelines said.
UGC Guidelines for students who will not be able to appear for the exams
The notice further states, “In case a student of the terminal semester/ final year is unable to appear in the examination conducted by the University for whatsoever the reason(s) may be, he/she may be given an opportunity to appear in special examinations for such course(s)/ paper(s), which may be conducted by the university as and when feasible so that the student is not put to any inconvenience/ disadvantage. The above provision shall be applicable only for the current academic session 2019-20 as a one-time measure.”
