UGC to introduce Draft Regulations for online courses next week, Chairman Jagadesh Kumar

PM Narendra Modi has urged the UGC and AICTE to formulate regulations around digital university soon.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is planning to introduce draft regulations for online degree courses to be offered by higher education institutions. The draft would also bring clarity regarding the collaboration of universities with EdTech companies to offer various types of courses in collaboration.

The UGC would invite suggestions from various stakeholders to share their suggestions as it is planning to formulate the regulations soon allowing institutions to offer online courses from upcoming academic session 2022-23.

Newly appointed UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar speaking exclusively to Shiksha talking about the regulations said: “Next week we will be putting draft regulations on the UGC website invite all the stakeholders for their inputs and modify the regulations depending on the requirement and suggestions for the online courses to be offered by universities and other higher education institutions.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a webinar on various provisions for the education sector in the Budget 2022 urged the UGC and AICTE to formulate regulations around digital university soon.

Dr Kumar said that UGC upon getting suggestions from the stakeholders will soon formulate the regulations. “We will then finalize the regulations so that many higher education institutions can start offering courses through online mode from academic session 2022-23,” Kumar said.
