Ukraine returned medicos on hunger strike to demand continuation of education in India
Many Indian medical students were evacuated from Ukraine in March due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, these students have been demanding accommodation at Indian medical colleges.
Ukraine returned medical students' future looks uncertain with the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. These students were evacuated from Ukraine in the month of March 2022 and since then the students and their parents are requesting accommodation in Indian medical colleges as a one-time measure so that these students can continue their remaining education in India.
A group of these students are sitting on hunger strike in Delhi and they are demanding admission to Indian medical colleges. There are many countries including Russia allowing these students to join their universities but the students on hunger strike are only interested in studying in India, as reported by Indian Express.
AAP leader urges PM Modi to help these students
After the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin wrote to the Prime Minister recently, now Aam Aadmi Party's senior leader Sushil Gupta has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for urging him to save the future of these students.
''I urge you to take a generous view in this regard and to do everything possible to save the future of all those MBBS students who have returned from Ukraine. Please accord your highest priority to this issue,'' reads the letter, as reported by Devdiscourse.
Union Minister for State for Health and Family Welfare Bharti Pawar on Tuesday informed the Rajya Sabha that there are no such provisions in the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 to accommodate or transfer medical students from any foreign medical institutes to Indian medical colleges.
