Union Budget 2022: AYUSH Ministry gets INR 3,050 crore

Union Budget 2022 has allocated INR 3,050 crore to the Ministry of Ayush and also has provisions to set up the Global Centre for Traditional Medicine.

In the Union Budget 2022, presented by Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, the Ministry of Ayush has received an allocation of INR 3,050 crore. 

The traditional medicine systems have got more popularity during the pandemic period as it is known to increase the immunity of people. The government is focussing more on the significance of traditional medicine systems in times of the Covid pandemic and the Ministry of Ayush had also kept the people updated with tips to handle the pandemic in a better way by following the natural healing systems of India.

The Ministry of Ayush has received a slight increase of 2.69% from the previous year when it had got INR 2,970 crore. The increased funds are allocated to further expand the works of the National Ayush Mission (NAM).

With the aim of promoting cost-effective services such as Naturopathy and Yoga, a total of INR 800 crore has been allocated to upgrade dispensaries, hospitals and to support the cultivation of medicinal plants. National AYUSH Mission has got an allocation of INR 800 crore as compared to INR 553 crore in 2021-22.

Moreover, the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine and Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Central Council for Research in Homeopathy have received INR 1,759 crore for research and development in the traditional medicine sector.

To promote Ayurveda, Yoga and other traditional medicine systems, the budget 2022 has also provisions to set up a Global Centre for Traditional Medicine. The government has put more emphasis on building digital infrastructure and Ayush-grid, all states and UTs will receive increased grants-in-aid to promote the same.
