While presenting the Union Budget 2022, the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has stated that a tele-mental health programme will be introduced with NIMHANS being the nodal centre and IIIT, Bangalore providing the technical support.

The Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has presented the Union Budget 2022-2023. She said that the Covid-19 pandemic has pointed out the mental health issues among people of all ages and to tackle this problem, a national tele-mental health programme will be introduced consisting of a network of 23 tele-mental health centres of excellence with NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences) being the nodal centre and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) Bangalore will provide the technological support.

Sitharaman said, "The pandemic has accentuated mental health problems in people of all ages. To better the access to quality mental health counseling and care services, a national tele-mental health programme will be launched. This will include a network of 23 tele-mental health centres of excellence with NIMHANS being the nodal centre and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) Bangalore providing technology support."

"An open platform for the national digital health ecosystem will be rolled out. It will consist of digital registries of health providers and health facilities, unique health identities, consent framework and universal access to health facilities," she added.

"I recognize we are in midst of an Omicron wave with high incidence but milder symptoms. Further, the speed and coverage of our vaccination campaign has helped greatly. With the accelerated improvement of health infrastructure in the past two years, we are in a strong position to withstand challenges. I am confident that will 'Sabka Prayas', we will continue our journey with strong growth. Empathy for those who bore the impact of the pandemic. We are confident of withstanding challenges amid the Covid-19 pandemic and strive to provide a necessary ecosystem for the middle class. This budget hopes to lay the foundation for Amrit Kal from India at 75 to India at 100," she further added.
