The Union Public Service Commission told to Supreme Court that it is impossible to postpone the UPSC IAS prelims 2020 schedule for October 4. In a petition filed by twenty Civil Services aspirants for postponing the Civil Services Prelims 2020 exam conducted by UPSC, Supreme Court of India issued a notice to Union Government and UPSC for present their argument regarding the plea.

The UPSC has argued in the Supreme Court today that ‘postponing the UPSC IAS 2020 prelims exam at this point is impossible”. Supreme Court asked the Centre and UPSC to submit an affidavit related to the preparations made for the IAS prelims 2020 exam.

“Conducting the aforesaid examination in India at such perilous time, is nothing else but putting lives of lakhs of young students (including Petitioners) at utmost risk and danger of disease and death,” the plea stated, according to PTI.

On the previous date (September 28), the Apex court asked the lawyer of the petitioner Alakh Alok Srivastava to serve a copy of the petition to UPSC and Centre. UPSC and Union Government of India have submitted an affidavit regarding the activities and the arrangements made for the Civil Services Examination.

The main contention of the petition is that conducting the IAS prelims 2020 amid Coronavirus pandemic, floods and now the farmers’ agitation will infringe the right of equal opportunity in the government service (Article 16) of the poor and downtrodden candidates. The number of Covid-19 cases is increasing day by day and it is not feasible to conduct the exam in these conditions.

The other argument which can be put forward by the petitioner is that what about the rights of the candidates who are suffering from the Coronavirus infection. What arrangements have been done for the candidates suffering from the Coronavirus infection to appear in the exam?. Is UPSC mulling to provide an extra attempt to the candidates suffering from Covid-19 infection?
The matter is adjourned today and will again come up for hearing on September 30.
