The Jawaharlal Nehru University said that it is in the process to finalize the mode to complete the course and to conduct the exams, in view of the coronavirus lockdown.
With the lockdown now being extended until May 3, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has said that it is in the process to finalize the mode to conduct the exams.
A meeting was held among the vice-chancellor, rectors, registrar and several deans of schools and chairpersons of special centers on April 12, the JNU said in a statement.
During the meeting, it was decided that deans of schools and chairpersons of special centres will consult their respective faculties and prepare a set of recommendations relevant to their respective schools or special centres on the comprehensive mechanism that would be followed to complete the courses, hold examinations, and facilitate dissertations, theses guidance and submissions.
"The JNU students come from various parts of the country and there is a problem of good internet connectivity in rural areas, a flexible, yet efficient, the mechanism will be devised by the deans of schools and chairpersons of special centres to help students in completing their academic requirements," the varsity said.
The University has requested Deans of schools and chairpersons of special centres to submit their recommendations by April 16 after doing a consultation with different centres and faculty members.
Once the approval is received from the competent authority, the final decisions on methods to be adopted to complete the course and to conduct the exam will be reported to the Academic Council, the University said.
Earlier, the varsity had made two committees to recommend steps for completing the Winter Semester and for conducting exams during the coronavirus lockdown.
A combined report submitted by the two committees recommended conducting online examinations, using virtual learning methods and cancelling the summer vacation this year.
The report also suggested giving a grace period to students unable to take online exams during the lockdown period.
The two committees further suggested online modes of teaching and learning.
