IISc Bangalore shuts down amid coronavirus scare for 15 days

IISc Bangalore has declared a 15-day lockdown of its campus to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus which has claimed three lives till now in the country.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has announced that the campus will be kept closed for 15 days in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. According to the latest update, the total number of positive cases of COVID-19 has reached 129, which has raised a major concern around the country to contain t spread with strict measures.

Response to the situation, the IISc has decided to lockdown its campus for the next 15 days and has asked its students to leave the campus by Monday afternoon until further notice. The residents and faculty staying on the campus are also instructed to avoid social gatherings.

Speaking on this, V. Rajarajan, Varsity’s Registrar, said that all the academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities have been suspended from March 14 for the next 15 days, amid the rise in positive coronavirus cases and to avoid its spread. All the examinations, classes, seminars, visits, project works for interns and others, are also suspended for the defined period.

As per the guidelines released by the World Health Organisation (WHO), large public gatherings should be avoided in order to minimize human contact.

Across the country, many schools and universities have suspended their classes and examination amid this deadly outbreak. The government has ordered all educational institutions to close down to prevent its spread. The spread of coronavirus, till date, has claimed three lives and has infected over 129 people in the country.
