One of the renowned varsities in the nation, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers students admission to different programmes in the field of Food and Nutrition. Students can either take up a certificate course or a Master’s course. Students are taught and trained to develop as diet counsellors, nutrition/health communicators and helping them understand the needs of the human body in terms of various nutrients required at different stages of life. The courses offered in Dietetics and Nutrition at IGNOU are as follows:

Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria for the above-mentioned courses are as follows:

MSc in Food and Nutrition: The student needs to have done their BSc in Home Science with a specialisation in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or PG Diploma in Dietetics or its equivalent from a recognised University and should have secured a minimum of 55% to be eligible.

PhD in Food and Nutrition: The candidate needs to have done their MSc in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or its equivalent from a recognised University and should have secured a minimum of 55% to be eligible.

Certificate: The student needs to have done their Class 12 from a recognised board in the Science stream and should have secured a minimum of 45%.

Admission Process: Students seeking admission will first have to apply online on the official website of IGNOU. For admission to the Certificate programme or MSc Programme, students will be judged on the basis of merit list. There will be no admission test. However, for admission to PhD courses, students will have to appear for an entrance exam. Students who clear the written test, are required to appear for an interview. Candidates who clear the two rounds are offered admission to the programme.

Parul University

One of the recognised varsities in the nation is Parul University, which offers students admission to full-time courses in Dietetics and Nutrition. Students can pursue their BSc and their MSc as well in the field. Known for their academic excellence in various fields of education, the varsity also conducts various seminars, industrial visits, workshops, conferences and expert lectures. Eligibility Criteria: The candidate can follow the below-mentioned eligibility criteria for the two courses which are as follows:

BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics: The candidate needs to have done their Class 12 from a recognised board in Science stream and should have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate to be eligible.

MSc in Nutrition and Dietetics: The candidate needs to have done their BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics or Home Science or its equivalent from a recognised University and should have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate to be eligible.

Admission Process: The students are required to apply online on the official website of Parul University. For admission, students are required to appear for an entrance exam for all courses and programmes. Candidates who clear the written entrance exam, will have to appear for an interview round. A merit list will be released after the two rounds have been conducted and candidates who make the list, are required to appear for the counselling session to complete the admission formalities.

Chandigarh University

One of the well-known and recognized varsities in Northern India, Chandigarh University offers an undergraduate course in Dietetics and Nutrition. The Department of Dietetics and Nutrition introduces students to basic and clinical nutrition concepts which they can use in their careers. Along with theoretical knowledge about the course, the Department also provides students with lab facilities, seminars, presentations and quiz competitions are conducted, learned and experienced lecturers are also called in and students are also made to do a small scale research project to find out what they would like to specialize in going further. Eligibility Criteria: The candidate needs to have done their Class 12 from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology/Agriculture/Home Science and should have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate to be eligible.

Admission Process: Students are required to apply online on the official website of Chandigarh University and are required to appear for the Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test (CUCET). Students who make the cut-off marks, are offered admission to the course.

Affiliated to the Delhi University, the Lady Irwin College in New Delhi offers students admission to Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition. Shoolini University
