The honoree, eminent economist Dr Ajit Ranade, Vice Chancellor of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in Pune, created a sensation by pointing out that the science of economics is mute on the topic of equity or equality. He emphasised that while inequality would always exist, we must choose the ideal level of disparity for society's long-term sustainability. Dr H. Chaturvedi, Director of BIMTECH in Greater Noida and another guest of honour, educated the audience with data and interpretations from the World Inequality Report 2022. From an economist's perspective, he placed emphasis on the DIE policy as a means of reducing the inequality ratio. BGU Conducts Guest Lecture on "Participatory Approach to Communication and Social Change"
November 16, 2022: A special guest lecture on "Participatory Approach to Communication and Social Change" was given at Birla School of Communication, Birla Global University. Dr. Devendra Sharma, Senior Fulbright Fellow and Professor of Communication, Performance, and Social Influence at California State University in the United States, gave the guest lecture. Dr. Sharma is an expert in persuasion, communication for social change, and performance communication. Additionally, he is a fifth-generation performer, author, and director of the classic Sngt musical theatre genres of northern India, including Swang-Nautanki, Raaslila, Bhagat, and Rasiya. In the middle of the 1800s, his ancestors popularised "Rahas" or musical theatre at the court of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah in Awadh.
Before the lecture began, the students engaged in a lively interactive discussion on their points of view and the value of communication. Dr. Devendra Sharma continued the lecture by discussing the term "global" and introducing a phenomenon called "Glocal," which is formed from the word "local." The students were given a lot of information about the significance and influence of Glocal as opposed to Global during this very cerebral discussion. Dr. Sharma also covered non-participatory methods, the value of participation, participation and decision-making, and democratic participation in addition to his discussion of participatory communication. These 4 points were extensively explained. And going even further, Dr. Sharma gave a thorough explanation of the subject using real-world examples. The children gladly participated as there was a lot of information to learn and a lot of perspectives to express throughout the session.
As they continued their education, they were also exposed to Paulo Freire's ideas on technocrats, the banking model, and discursive consciousness. Prof. Sharma also made the lecture a participatory session and asked the students to share examples of their own discursive communication in line with the topic of participatory communication.
