Mystory@Venkat K Vurity: How I made my career – Challenges and successes

2 mins readUpdated on Apr 24, 2017 14:27 IST

I was unable to go to a regular college, due to financial crisis in my family, so I did B.Com, through correspondence from Andhra University while working. My graduation was a rather uninteresting as the whole purpose was to complete the course.

Due to financial crisis, I took up the job of a Clerk in Government Office immediately after completing class 10. Due to the same issue, I did not even had any choice in selecting my career. However, it was exciting to start my career at a tender age. The satisfaction you get from working and earning at a very young age is truly wonderful.

What I’ve learnt from my experience is that one should not bow down to pressure.

Later on, I was attracted towards showbiz and I wanted to become and actor or a model. I tried my luck in the field, but in vain. I lost a lot of money while struggling to get a break in the showbiz world. I missed a few opportunities narrowly; may be due to bad luck. The situation at home wasn’t getting any better either. So, I decided to stick to my government job. If given a chance again, I would still like to give showbiz a second try.

My career choice: Learnings and experiences

I can’t say if the decision of working as a clerk in the government sector was right, but I never liked that job. I don’t see any mistakes I made along the way, but yes had I given a different approach to the situations, I may have made a different career. So, no mistakes, but there was a lot for learning. Like, I was trying for other career, while holding on to one. Either I should have left the one in hand and tried sincerely for the career, I loved, or should have stuck to the one I had in hand. People around me made me opt for the second choice, which I did reluctantly.

Now, I have a stable career. I am married now and have two kids. I have been promoted to the officer cadre. I currently hold the post of Assistant Accounts Officer, and now my sole aim is to provide my kids all means for a bright and stable career.

What I’ve learnt from my experience is that one should not bow down to pressure but put efforts sincerely into what one really wants and achieve it. Once you make a career of your choice, you will get immense satisfaction and happiness out of it. After all, your career is your life.
