These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.

Coronavirus - this word has become a part of many lives around the world. This pandemic that emerged due to a virus originated from Wuhan, a city in China, has created havoc in the lives of people. This virus had made human beings helpless.

The whole world is falling apart, the economies are slowing down, the businesses are shutting down, and the education sector is also facing challenges. The schools are cancelling the exams, and universities are finding ways of taking exams through online platforms. The stock market around the world saw the worst fall in history and labourers have taken most hit due to all these scenarios.

Due to this pandemic, many countries including India have declared lockdown to decrease the spread of coronavirus. Many companies are forced to opt for work from home. The universities are taking steps to impart education through online lectures and making it compulsory for students to attend online classes. Many online platforms are providing access to their online classes free of cost to help students continue their learning.

Now coming to the question are these online classes effective/sustainable?

The long-term effect of the online scenario on the Education sector has certain challenges. If the offline classes are not possible, then direct interaction of the students with the teachers will be lost. Online classes could never be like offline classes. The students will also not be physically active as they used to be in the colleges/school.

The impact of the teachers on the students would be less as compared to offline classes.

Nowadays, online frauds are rising and data security breach will be of main concern as we saw in the scenario of ZOOM app where many were accusing the company of leaking data to their servers. Therefore, this will be a big challenge for the institutions to avoid such data breach.

Due to this pandemic, the traffic on the networks has increased which can cause a delay in the attending online lectures. The school activities are meant for students to be both physically and mentally strong which will be lowest due to online classes.

The student's physical life will hit at some point, which can lead to some health-related problems due to lack of physical activities. No doubt, online classes can never replace offline classes, as there are restrictions in online classes such as environment, motivation, network issues, etc.

Due to this lockdown, it will be very difficult to open the offline classes even for six months. The only way is to improve the quality of online classes so that the students are more engaged to learn things like improving the network quality or the online platform that is used to impart learning. Secondly, teachers can try to create an environment where students can feel as they are attending offline classes.

My college is delivering lectures through online-recorded videos and giving it to the students so that they can watch it any time.

As a large number of students are attending online classes at the same time, the platform may crash, so it is very important to make the platform efficient to sustain the online classes for a long time.
