BHU unveils certificate in Bhoot Vidya

Bhoot Vidya is a six-month certificate course for BAMS and MBBS doctors to provide cure to psychotherapy and psychosomatic disorders.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched a six-month certificate course on the study of paranormal activities. The course will comprise psychotherapy and the treatment of psychosomatic disorders and abnormal psychological conditions. The initial classes are scheduled to take place from January and the faculty of Ayurveda will oversee the matters pertaining to Bhoot Vidya.

Eligibility

The candidates holding Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) will be eligible to get the certificate. 

BHU has conceptualised this course to cure many diseases that are caused by unknown reasons, usually considered Bhoot (ghosts) or paranormal activities. An entire unit dedicated to Bhoot Vidya has been opened in the faculty of Ayurveda to provide formal education to doctors. Bhoot Vidya is one of the eight fundamental branches of Ashtanga Ayurveda. Faculty of Ayurveda at the BHU is the first in the country to carve a dedicated unit of Bhoot Vidya and design a certificate course on the subject. 

The plan to lay the foundation stone for this separate unit was crafted six months back. A meeting was held where all the heads of 16 departments gave their nod to the proposal. The proposal was then sent to the academic council of the university, which gave permission to a separate unit and a certificate course on one of the basic branches of Ashtanga Ayurveda. This is one of a kind course introduced for the first time in an Indian curriculum.
