The guardians of students, who are eligible for the mid-day meal, can collect the rice and potatoes on behalf of their wards, from today until April 30, the West Bengal School Education Department said.
West Bengal School Education Department has announced that the guardians of students, who are eligible to avail mid-day meals, can now collect rice and potatoes on behalf of their wards from today.
"The respective school authorities will inform the parents through WhatsApp or SMS about the exact time and date of distribution of these food items under mid-day meal scheme, and it will continue until April 30," the official said.
It has to be ensured that students do not accompany the guardians during the distribution and parents do not come without wearing masks, he said, while adding that, strict action will be taken against those who violate the order.
"District inspectors in different zones have directed school authorities to ensure social distancing, hygiene, and other precautionary measures are followed while distribution," he said.
In order to avoid overcrowding, every school has been asked to give separate time, staggered over 10 days, to guardians of different classes, he added.
While answering to a question, the official said, in case the headmaster is not able to reach school due to the ongoing lockdown, the teaching and non-teaching employees, living nearby, will be deployed for the work.
This will be the first such initiative during the lockdown period, he said.
On March 23, 3 kg of rice and 3 kg of potatoes were given to parents of students, who are eligible for mid-day meals.
There were reports of students accompanying their guardians to school compound, to collect food, during the March 23, distribution programme. After which, two south Kolkata school headmasters were transferred for allowing guardians, who were accompanied by their children.
