Coronavirus: Odisha higher education department suspends exams

The higher education department of Odisha has cancelled semester exams taking into consideration the coronavirus pandemic. So far, more than 100 people in the country have been impacted by the deadly virus. Apart from this, a few coronavirus reports have also been confirmed in the state. However, the higher education department made it clear that the final semester or final year exams of students will be conducted according to the schedule. In a press release, the department informed that the final semester exam/final year annual exam of undergraduate/postgraduate/any other course shall be conducted as per schedule with necessary caution.

According to the notice issued by the department, the education department informed that it has taken various measures in advance to tackle any untoward situation of coronavirus. However, it further stated that steps such as maintaining a safe distance between examinees, cleaning of chair and tabletop, hand sanitization of invigilators and examinees before entering exam hall, etc. are to be taken at the time of exam.

On March 13, the Odisha government had ordered the closure of schools and educational institute till March 31. According to the government order, all educational institutions of the state was meant to remain closed till March 31, except for conducting examinations and assessment. The order further said that unnecessary formal gatherings such as workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. are to be cancelled till March 31. In institutions, bio-metric attendances have been stopped. In the entire country, all the universities and colleges have decided to shut down their operations till March 31. Some have even closed the institutions till April 14.
