Earlier, on March 14, a 26-year-old IIT-Roorkee student who was suspected with the symptoms of coronavirus was sent to the isolation ward of a hospital in Hardwar.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has sent one foreign and eight Indian students under 14-day isolation on suspicion of COVID-19/Coronavirus. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared COVID-19 a Pandemic. Meanwhile, the health department of Uttarakhand's Nainital district has kept at least 70 foreign nationals under observation.
Earlier, on March 14, a 26-year-old IIT-Roorkee student who was suspected with the symptoms of coronavirus was sent to the isolation ward of a hospital in Hardwar. The M.Tech student had returned from Japan on March 3, 2020. According to the reports, 10 teams have been formed to keep a track of foreign tourists visiting Haridwar. 286 Pakistani pilgrims who recently reached Haridwar are being tracked by the health department. Earlier, 297 people including 100 foreign nationals were quarantined. However, they didn’t show any symptoms.
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the Uttarakhand government has declared novel coronavirus an epidemic. According to the official statement, In view of the emergency conditions, the government has shut all multiplexes, sports complexes, cinema halls, technical institutes, and degree colleges across the state till March 31, 2020.
On March 15, 2020, the state minister Madan Kaushik stated that Uttarakhand government has banned mass gatherings, including seminars and protests, in the state amid coronavirus outbreak. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far, a total of 110 cases of coronavirus, including 17 foreign nationals, have been confirmed across India. The maximum positive cases i.e. 32 have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala i.e. 22.
