Indira Gandhi National Open University has suspended all activities at its Learner Support Centers around India until March 31 in wake of coronavirus outbreak.

Amid the rising Coronavirus cases in the country, Indira Gandhi National Open University  ( IGNOU ) has cancelled all activities at Learner Support Centers (LSCs) around the country until March 31.

IGNOU runs around 1,800 LSCs all over India, which has more than 35,000 academic counsellors who are affiliated to 56 University regional centers. Over seven lakhs students are catered support services through these centers.

Following the guidelines given by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the university has also extended the assignment submission date to April 30, 2020. Earlier, the candidates were supposed to submit the assignment by March 31.

Responding to the situation, Professor Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU has directed all the students to use IGNOU helpline number, email id’s provided on IGNOU website, social media channels and IGNOU Grievance Redress And Management (iGRAM) portal during this period in case of any queries.

He has also advised students to stay at home and not to visit the study center, the regional center, and the IGNOU headquarters until further notice.

All employees, faculties, administrative staff have also been asked to follow the above guidelines in order to avoid the spread of the virus.

Any official(s) or their relative(s)/ visitor(s) who have a travel history to any foreign country, which are COVID-19 affected, must inform the Registrar (Admn) and should be home quarantined, and monitored, Prof. Rao, said in the official notification.

This is done as per the guidelines issued by the Government of India, which stated that anyone who is returning from a foreign country should self-quarantine themselves at their homes for 15 days, to avoid a further increase in the number of coronavirus cases.

Prof. Rao has also requested all the residents on the university campus to follow the government protocol and avoid any social gatherings.
