Banaras Hindu University to conduct assignment-based semester exams for final year students amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The Banaras Hindu University has announced that it will conduct the assignment-based examination for the final year students, due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis in the country. The Executive Council has approved the proposal to make the session examination as assignment based for the students of the intermediate and final semester of academic session 2019-20.
The students will be given assignments by their teachers with a time limit of fifteen days for completion and it will be provided to the students through an e-mail. Students need to submit the assignment in the same format. Once the assignment submitted by students are evaluated, the marks of the same will be uploaded by the teachers on the portal by August 31, 2020.
In order to bring uniformity in standards of assignment across different courses run by a Faculty and within a course, BHU will hold a prior discussion at the Faculty/Department level. In such cases where the sessionals have been fully or partly completed before the university closed in mid-March due to novel coronavirus outbreak, students will be allowed to choose assignment-based sessionals as aforesaid. In case they opt assignment-based sessionals, marks obtained by them in the previously held sessionals will be compared with the marks obtained in the assignment-based sessionals and the better of the two will be considered. This is aimed at bringing uniformity.
The distribution of the weightage of sessionals and end semester exam for the students of terminal semesters have been fixed as 30:70. Keeping in view the UGC guidelines, the distribution of the weightage of sessionals, and end semester exams for students of intermediate semesters is now fixed as 50:50.
In the relaxation of courses on the necessity of obtaining 4.0 CGPA for promotion to a higher year of the course, students of the intermediate semesters of academic session 2019-20 will be promoted to the higher semester during the academic session 2020-21. Also, the students of intermediate semesters of Academic Session 2019-20, no end semester exams will be conducted. In case the students are unsatisfied with the marks obtained in the aforesaid said manner, they will be given a chance to improve the grades by appearing in the next available examinations of such courses in succeeding academic sessions.
