COVID-19 impact: Delhi University to consider cancellation of semester exams

Delhi University (DU) is considering the cancelation of semester exams and discussing direct promotions. According to the source, Senior University officials during a video conference with DU Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Yogesh Tyagi, discussed various issues ranging from admissions to examinations. During the meeting, two proposals were made by the officials, first, declaration of summer vacation i.e. from April 15 to May 15 to start the next academic session on time and second, promotion of first-year and second-year students without conducting semester examinations.

The officials stated that conducting semester exams for first-year and second-year students will be a task as they are larger in number. The University can promote the students on the basis of promotions or on the basis of prior evaluations. Following these steps will help the authorities to conduct the examination for third-year students.

While the officials made the proposals, the Vice-Chancellor is yet to take the decision. Meanwhile, DU postponed its admission process. In an official statement, the University stated, ‘The registration process for admissions for the session 2020-21 in UG/PG/M.Phil/PhD courses of the University of Delhi is on hold till further orders.’

In order to practice social distancing as advised by the Prime Minister on March 24, the University decided to put its admission process on hold.
