COVID-19: Kolkata schools start e-classes to complete syllabus

In order to curb the loss of studies, many schools in West Bengal have decided to conduct online classes to complete the syllabus and keep the students connected to the curriculum.

Amid the shutdown of educational institutions, schools, colleges, and universities due to coronavirus outbreak, the West Bengal government has extended the closure of educational institutes till April 15. The rapidly spreading novel coronavirus has left the educational system fractured. Classes are suspended, examinations are postponed, and evaluation of mark sheets has stopped delaying the results. In order to curb the loss of studies, many schools in the city have decided to conduct online classes to complete the syllabus and keep the students connected to the curriculum.

According to the principal of Ram Mohan Mission School, Sujoy Biswas, the school will conduct classes over Skype. While teachers are asked to give lectures and solve student’s issues over Skype, students will be submitting assignments and homework through online portals.

Talking about the efforts that schools putting to complete the syllabus, a spokesperson of the Heritage School stated that teachers will take conduct online classes in order to cope with the loss of time. Tests will be conducted and study material will be shared through the internet.

Schools are now working toward making their online portals versatile enough to conduct classes, take tests and assignments. The principal of Central Modern School in Baranagar, Nabarun Dey stated that the school has put in a mechanism through which students are able to submit their work online. The Future Foundation School is also offering online classes for all students. 

There is a sense of worry among teachers and students both, as it is important for class 10 and 12 students to complete their syllabus on time. Any current delay will affect the Boards of the upcoming year as well.
