Tamil Nadu government cancelled exams for various undergraduate and post-graduate courses. Read further to know the details. 

Tamil Nadu government decided to cancel the semester exams of various colleges in the state. The decision is taken in the view of the recommendations from a high-level committee formed by the Government of the state. The university along with various colleges including the polytechnic college cancelled the intermediate semester exams as per the suggestions of the committee. According to the reports, the intermediate students would be marked on the basis of the University Grants Commission, UGC, and All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE guidelines.

The government of Tamil Nadu took this step in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the state. The students belonging to the intermediate semester would be considered passed without any exams being conducted. Listed below are the details of the exams and the subjects for which the TN government called off the exams.

TN Government cancels exams for the following courses

Exams stand to cancel for Arts and Science stream first and second year UG students and first-year PG students across all the colleges in the state. Exams are called off for engineering stream students as well. No student of first to the third year in UG courses would be appearing for the intermediate semesters. However, the rule is applicable for only first-year PG students of engineering colleges. 

Tamil Nadu cancels UG & PG semester exam

Various polytechnic colleges called off exams for all the first and second-year students in the state. These students would be considered passed without exams. Also, the first and second-year students of MCA degree colleges do not have to attend their exams. The assessment of these students would be based on the basis of their internal exams or the project work as suggested by the UGC and AICTE in their guidelines. 

Recently the University Grants Commission, UGC revised its examination guidelines in the view of the ongoing pandemic situation. The commission gave the universities a free will to decide the process of awarding marks to the students enrolled in various courses. Meanwhile, AICTE also recommended all its affiliated colleges to follow the UGC guidelines. Colleges are liable to provide complete information regarding the cancellation of exams, the conduct of the final year exams, assessment without exams, exam schedule and more to the students.
