Bhubaneswar’s two premiere institutes, The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) on January 6, 2020 for collaborative research and academic interaction among the faculties and scientists of both the institutes in their core areas for improving the quality of life through the application of technology.

The memorandum of understanding was signed between the two prestigious institutes in presence of Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', who also held an interaction with the Directors of Central institutes and KVS officials during his visit.

The MoU, valid for a period of five years, may extend in future after mutual discussion. While expressing his views on the pact signed by the two prestigious institutes of Bhubaneswar, Pokhriyal said that he is looking forward to fruitful outcomes from the collaboration in the best interest of the society. He also stressed that there is a void in the form of interdisciplinary research work in the domains of institutions and another such move between technological and medical institutions needs to be made.

Nishank added that all the institutes should complement each other's work as a team and collaborate for meaningful outcomes in the interest of the society and an agreement between the IIT and the AIIMS is a good start.

The agreement will enable the sharing of research information and joint supervision of doctoral and post-graduate students of the two institutes for research programmes.
