IIT Delhi and NHAI collaborate to use AI in data management & decision making for highways

With this collaboration, IIT Delhi will work on strengthening NHAI’s capabilities in data-driven decision making by developing advanced analytics based on AI and ML, prepare simulation models, enhance data storage and retrieval capacities.

Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Delhi collaborated with the National Highways Authority of India, NHAI to set up a Centre of Excellence for use of Artificial Intelligence, AI  in highways. The collaboration will encourage NHAI to use AI in data-driven decision making and advance data management systems for Highways. With this collaboration, IIT Delhi will work on strengthening NHAI’s capabilities in data-driven decision making by developing advanced analytics based on AI and ML, prepare simulation models, enhance data storage and retrieval capacities.

The collaboration received accolades from the Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' himself.  Mr Pokhriyal believes that this partnership will focus on identified thrust areas like Project Management and Data Management, Highway Network, Traffic Demand, and Incident Management. According to the reports, as a part of this collaboration, IIT Delhi will give inputs for the NHAI data management policy. Not only this, but the Institute would also provide space and infrastructural facility support to house the CoE. Scientific and technical expertise will also be provided by the Institute to extend the research facilities at par.

Meanwhile, IIT Delhi celebrated its Diamond Jubilee on August 17, 2020. The  Vice-President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu virtually graced the celebrations as the chief guest and inaugurated the same. The event also witnessed the presence of Education Minister. The celebration was conducted in the virtual mode due to the ongoing pandemic situation and rising COVID-19 cases. The diamond jubilee logo and strategy document was also released by the Vice President during the event.
